PHYSICAL. The coloration of the mare's coat is the one thing that makes her even worth looking at--as opposed to through or over. Her face is a bright white in color, her blue eyes peeking from behind white lashes. The skin of her face is a light grey in color, providing a nice backdrop to the paleness. However, as one travels down her body, or more toward the rear, rather, her coat gradually becomes darker--the mare's mane mirrors this by being lighter near her pole and darker at her withers, her tail is black at the base, but lightens into a darkish tan color at the tip. Once you reach the end of her barrel, things truly take a sharper turn from the light, culminating in her rear legs and buttocks being a very dark brown that appears black save in direct sunlight. Her hooves, though her front legs are white and her rear black, are all black in color. She does have a rather appealing dappling of her coat that appears evenly throughout her body, despite the fade from light to dark.
Ruin is neither remarkable nor stunning in her physique. In fact, everything interesting about her stops after her coloration.
She stands an average height for her mixed lineage (of which she only knows Appaloosa exists, but could not name the others), with a body that, if anything, is slimmer than her parents'. Her legs are neither strong nor weak, her muscles not defined or miniscule. She doesn't appear to be a great fighter or a bad one. To all physical appearances she is... average.
FEARS. Spiders, disrespecting the Goddess, losing touch with reality
VICES. Grits her teeth when angered, brutally honest without meaning to be harmful, mostly unaware of other's feelings/emotions
STRENGTHS. Amazing at being average, has decent stamina, a thinker
PET PEEVES. Others who don't say what they mean or talk in circles, incessant blathering, passive aggressiveness to any degree
LIKES. Wind, rain, storms, righteous people, birds
PERSONALITY. Ruin is a very straightforward sort of horse. She isn't afraid to speak her mind and often hurts feelings with her brutal honesty. It isn't that she is looking to harm others, just that she doesn't always consider how the words may affect someone's emotions. To an extent she doesn't seem to care if she hurts another, shrugging it off with a "Well I'm just telling to truth." Let it be said, however, that the blase indifference is merely a pretense, and is used simply because she herself has been hurt, and is lashing back at the world.
This hurt I speak of comes from a rather dark time in her history, and from a thought-to-be friend. I shall leave the more specific details for later, but I will divulge the effect it had on her. The spectacular lie that this gent weaved drew her in like a moth to a light. It would be nice to say that he left her with a broken heart and she mended. Indeed that would be nice. That is not what this sadistic bastard did. Instead, he kept after her, trailing her like a wolf would a wounded moose, incessantly asking for her to return to his side. It was all she could do to stay in this reality, to keep her mind from wandering into her Sanctuary, where nothing could touch her. With that whore dogging after her she was never able to truly confront what it was he had done to her, what he had taken away, nor to move on. This left her stunted emotionally, unable to truly confront issues and work through them, and it sparked a flicker of hatred in her soul.
This Sanctuary I mentioned earlier actually plays a huge role in the mare's life. Though it is completely within the confines of her mind, it is as real to her as the grass she eats or the air she breathes. It is, in fact, a fortress of sorts. There stands a mighty castle in the center of an enormous field. Around this castle are three rings of fencing, going from castle battlements to wooden privacy fence to a mere gathering of stones, from closest to furthest accordingly. The fencing serves as a barrier, be they emotional or however you wish to take them, to protect her Sanctuary from outsiders--the outsiders being anyone she comes into contact in reality. The outermost fence is merely a distraction, and those with whom she can strike up an amiable conversation (or at least a pleasant interaction) are allowed across. The middle fencing allows only passage of those considered friends. Becoming one of which is quite a feat. The formidable battlements that directly surround the castle grant access to only those who hold a special place in her heart. Thus far only one had managed to get in, and that bastard will spend the rest of his life rotting in her dungeon. No one has ever made it into the castle itself.

HISTORY. Ruin was born to parents who were completely unremarkable save for the fact that, instead of belonging to a sect, they lived on their own. The only other noteworthy fact about them was that they had an interestingly colored daughter.
Ruin's parents were nice enough, her father playing more of a role in her life than her mother. Ruin's father taught her how to fight, at least on a basic level, and taught her many useful survival skills. Her mother, however, always seemed to have something negative to say, and neither of them praised Ruin for doing something good. "You should know when you've done something right, we shouldn't have to tell you." They always said. Which left no room for mistakes to be made. Even when Ruin was very young, she would be punished for doing something wrong, but never told how to do it right. While this left a yearning for approval, it also taught her--the hard way--how to behave.
Ruin's greatest tragedy happened when she was still young, just turning two years old. There was a neighboring band of horses that lived in a meadow nearby her family's location, and one day a striking stallion wandered over. He seemed nice enough, charming, funny, and would always take great care when it came to Ruin. The two would often spend long days together, grazing and talking about their hopes and dreams. After a few short months, Ruin found herself falling in love with the stallion, despite that fact that he was 5 years old and she only 2.
It was a not-so-special afternoon when she went to meet him by their pond when the awful thing happened. It started out as any other day had; They met, talked, laughed, and generally had a good time. But the stallion kept moving closer to her, laying his skull across her withers, then her back. He even went so far as to gently caress her flanks with his muzzle, all the while making soft snorts to reassure her. Ruin, having decided long ago that he was not capable of any evil, went right along with it all.
It happened so fast she didn't even know what had happened until she was racing through the woods away from him. The stallion was larger in stature, and stronger. It was easy for him to grasp her withers in his teeth and bear his weight down upon her to keep her from struggling. He was experienced in his ways, and his aim was true. When he paused for a mere moment to catch his breath, the mare landed a kick to his nethers and bolted through the forest.
Ruin was greeted with angry words and flying hooves when she returned to her parents. They didn't care what had happened. They were angry she had left. They didn't care that she had just been raped, they didn't care that she could lead them to the culprit, and they didn't care that her world had just been turned upside-down and inside-out. She was scolded for having left her parents, and forced to remain with them forever more. To make matters worse the stallion wouldn't leave her alone. He constantly haunted the shadows, gently calling to her, trying to apologize, saying that he thought it was what she wanted, and that she should come back to him. He would make everything okay again. She couldn't escape the nightmares.
A month later Ruin felt the first stirring in her belly and knew. Her father and mother were outraged, but not with the stallion who had done this. They were furious that she had caused them more stress, that she would be bringing another mouth to feed when resources were already scarce. Ruin lived life in misery that first month after she found out, convinced that the only way to escape it all was to end it. This was the time in her life when she spent the most hours hidden away in her Sanctuary, safe from all harm, cut off from reality.
As time went by she gradually grew accustomed to the idea of having a child when she herself was still so young. She even began to welcome it, to look forward to it. This would be her chance to raise a child as she had wanted to be raised. To shower it with love and affection. To give it the world. But her body wasn't ready to carry a baby, and the only thing she could remember was the blood.
It wasn't long after that Ruin finally gained the strength, of both mind and body, to leave her horrid past behind and begin anew. Life wouldn't be easy with so few skills and virtually no knowledge of the world, but anything had to be better than that life. Anything.
