FIGHTING GUIDELINES
In order to bring you the best RP experience that we can, we've laid out some basic guidelines which will ensure fairness to all players. Let's get the basics down first:
If you are in an IC thread and it naturally leads to a fight - your character has the option to just run away. You are not obligated to fight unless you want to. In fact, it would be wise to run away from higher level characters - especially if there's no logical way your stats could match up to theirs.
You are welcome to discuss possibly fighting another character OOC, hell, you can even discuss who wins - this is all up to you. (If you do agree on a character winning beforehand, you can't go back on your word - that's just rude.)
All fights will be monitored by a staff member. When a fight breaks out - a staffer must be notified. We are an integral part of the process as we will provide your damage points during the brawl. Think of us as the dude in Dungeons and Dragons who keeps everyone's scores and rolls the dice.
Posting order is set once in battle. Especially if there are more than two characters involved. If Suzy posted first, Ben second and Harold third - that's the way each round needs to go. Suzy, Ben and then Harold.
No godmoding. No powerplaying. No metagaming. No retconning. If you need a guide on what these mean - click here. If you are caught doing any one of these things - the staff member monitoring the battle will dish out a random injury to your character, and based off of how bad the offense is you might get a warning.
If you are taking too much damage in a fight, and you're worried about your character - you still have the option to run away. However, this will count as a defeat - and whoever you ran from will be the victor.
Your character is allowed to attempt to dodge 3 times. If you try more than that, trust me, it will not be successful - remember, a staff member judges whether or not your dodge is successful.
During the fight - random events will happen. How will you know? Your trusty staff member will notify you. Please understand that these events are completely RANDOM. We have a system for these fights that includes both good and bad events - it makes the game more interesting for the players. Examples? Your character could trip and fall - the weather may turn suddenly - the environment might provide a challenge or benefit.
You have 3 days to reply to a fight thread. If you fail to reply within 3 days without notifying your staff member - you will lose the battle by default.
At the same time - if a staff member is taking too long to deliver your turn scores, you may continue the battle without us. However, you must wait at least 3 hours, and if you do continue, you can only post twice. Don't worry - we're active people, I spend most of my life on my computer, you won't have to wait long.
Please respond in as much detail as possible - this will only work in your favor. If you are descriptive with your attack and defense your staff member will be clear on what to judge.
Any other characters can join in on the fight IF they have permission from ALL current participants. This must be discussed OOC as the battle is already underway.
You are free to use whatever powers come with your mutation level. If you attempt to use a power that is above your current level - it will backfire.
Please ensure you make use of basic RP etiquette. If you'd like to read more about battle etiquette please read this article.
BATTLE PROCESS
- Player A and B are both willing and happy to fight each other. They have agreed on who posts first.
- Player A and B discuss OOC who is going to notify a staff member. That person does so by PM'ing a staff member and including a link to the fight thread.
- Player A makes their first battle post.
- Staff Judge works out the damage they've done to the other player, if their hits were successful and if any random events happened. This is posted in point form on the thread.
- Player B posts their reply - being mindful to react in a realistic way to player A's post.
- Staff Judge works out the damage they've done to the other player, if their hits were successful and if they dodged successfully. If a successful dodge was performed, the damage mentioned in the previous damage totals is removed.
- So on and so forth until the battle is over or a player has run away.
- The Staff Judge updates the profiles of both players - updating their HP and MP. The victor is awarded 75 points. If it was a character's first fight they gain a new profile section which includes wins and loses. A first time victor also gets the 'Brawler' award.
