It had taken him almost most of the morning to find this place, but as he descended down towards the water, he knew that it had been worth it. The place seemed almost untouched by any sign of mammal life. Birds congregated in the tree tops, singing their love songs to each other, while in the lake Khan could see little circles rising every time a fish rose up for a meal. The lake itself seemed almost unreal - it's waters shimmering like jewels in the sunlight. He had never before seen such pristine liquid. Too excited to walk, he broke into a run and barreled straight into the shallows. Sliding to a halt and immediately dipping his thirsty muzzled into the water and lapping up as much of it as he could stomach. It was sweet - pure water. Unpolluted by anything. The taste of it made his skin prickle and his tail wag.
“Ah mother earth, your wonders are endless.” He whispered, not to himself, but to the very world. He had seen many a lake, and all had been beautiful, but none so much as this one. As his eyes wandered around, he noticed some rocks that led a broken path into the deep end. The one at the very end was high enough for a very nice jump. He chuckled to himself under his breath as he backed out of the water and had a proper look at the rocks. His mind went to work calculating where exactly he needed to place his paws - his odd instinct did the rest. From a good distance away, Khan broke into a headlong sprint. Within seconds he was upon the first rock - his paws perfectly coordinated as he sprung to the second. The gap between this and the third was a mighty one, but no challenge for his lithe and agile form. Without skipping a beat he threw himself forward, forelegs outstretched to meet the hard rock. A perfect landing - and then the next leap. This one was also tricky, as the last precipice was higher than the others. But he made it, and without hesitation, he threw himself off of the highest point.
For the few moments that he was airborne, he shut his bi-colored eyes. Everything was perfect then. He was akin to the birds - soaring. Weightless. It was a moment of pure peace. But then the cool waters engulfed him and he went under. Opening his eyes again, he was greeted by the sunlight shooting diamond rays through the water. He hung there for a moment, simply observing as he held his breath. Everything was so perfect below the surface. So serene. But alas, he couldn't stay there forever. Kicking his legs, he surfaced.
Curiosity and caution were difficult traits to have existing in a single mind at once, let alone to express at the same time. Curiosity triggered caution, and caution often triggered curiosity. Oftentimes when Alixra was faced with both, she went one way or the other, or in between, though the latter was more likely unless she had another reason to do so. It was a fine balance that was upset quite frequently in the conscious of the quite unpredictable mare.
It was on this day she sought refuge in the cool waters, eager for a good soak and a relaxing swim. It was on this day that she found a wolf doing the same, bringing down any hopes of being alone. Sure, the lake was large, but she wasn't exactly fond of moving much further. Her muscles ached for relief and rest, and she wasn't sure on the matter of how much longer they could carry her weight. Even now she was having a hard time walking down the sloping hill that led to the luscious body of water.
It was about halfway down that a jutting rock evaded the blind, left side of her vision and managed to trip her. The weary traveler did not have the energy to keep herself from falling. She vaulted forth, body teetering and turning. She landed hard on her side, body rebounding up at the slightest. By the time her body had slid to a stop, the steepness of the hill had taken her almost to the water's edge.
Side's heaving, the blue dun lay, nares struggling to suck in air. It seemed as if the breath that had been knocked out of her refused to return no matter what measures she went to. As her daze cleared, she sucked in air, lungs welcoming the blessed oxygen and soaking in it. The mare relished the feel, the satisfaction of it making it easier to ignore her new-found headache and the ache that was now present on her right side, where most of her weight had been thrown down onto.
"Hate... gravity..." she wheezed, coughing loudly. She became idly aware of a splash not far from where she was, and lifted her head just in time to see a furry tail disappearing into the water. Her dial plopped back onto the ground with an irritated sigh. Alixra heaved her body to roll a bit more (though it was much more gentle than her last trip downwards) until her legs was in the water. Screw it. It can eat me for all I care, she growled mentally, and dismissed the presence of the potential predator only seven or so yards away.

He had thought that he had heard something as he was soaring through the air, and as he surfaced and looked wildly around, his suspicion was confirmed. On the bank closest to him lay a great blueish heap. Blinking the water from his bicolored eyes, he squinted into the distance, all the time treading water to keep himself afloat. “What on earth...” He mumbled under his breath as he made out the form of four long legs. A horse. A cold shock darted through his body as he surged forward through the water. Oh please don't be dead. He cursed the water now as it slowed him down. No matter how fast he kicked his legs it didn't seem like it was fast enough. He moved sluggishly through the liquid, all the time keeping his sight focussed on the horse. As he grew closer he could see that her side rose rhythmically up and down as she breathed.
After what seemed like forever he felt his paws brush the silky sand of shore, and he threw himself from the waters embrace, bounding toward the fallen one and sending spray in every direction. "Are you hurt?" He came to a grinding halt in the space between the horses fore and hind legs. Giving her a quick once over, he saw no blood, but still did not calm. "Can you stand?" Rather rudely, he jumped over her barrel and nudged her gently on the shoulder - only then realizing that she was probably exceptionally confused. He hadn't even given her time to reply to any of his questions.
Gathering himself up, he moved so that she could look upon him with ease. "Forgive me. I thought you were..." He didn't want to say dead. Bad, bad juju. "... hurt. I didn't mean to scare you." It was the honest truth. The last thing that Earos would dream of doing was to use his size and appearance as a weapon. He was a sound soul and he wished harm on nobody. All he ever wanted to do was help. But of course - he didn't let that come across at all times. He simply assumed that everyone would know. Which lead him into many unpleasant situations where he'd accidentally startled someone, or invaded their privacy. The list went on and on. All he could hope for was that this mare understood why he had rushed her like he did.
Ripples of water lapped suddenly at her stomach and quarters, the sound of the shifting water washing through her auds and cascading over her mind. She became awfully aware of the fact that the canine she had spied earlier was coming toward her. Negativity poisoned her mind, and as the sound grew louder, she was almost certain that her death was upon her, especially as he lunged over her body. Panic flooded her conscious, and all of the sudden she found adrenaline-fueled strength. Her body straightened and her head bobbed drastically as she hauled herself to her hooves. Legs wobbling, the relatively short mare rose up on her hind legs, front daggers pawing the air in front of her. Both of her eyes, the perfect and the ruined, widened, clouded pupils slightly visible under the opaque of the left and obsidian orbs clearly filling her optics on her right. She let out a roar of an alarmed whinny, backtracking several steps. Her nostrils flared and her eyes rolled back into her head. She didn't want to die like this, she realized. Not without a fight. In her terror she didn't realize that he was concerned about her or trying to help her. In her gaze the gentle giant before her was a massive killing machine, after her flesh and determined to taste her blood.
She turned on her hooves, and bolted a ways, forcing herself five or so yards up the hill. Her legs quaked, wobbling uncontrollably and making it difficult to stand. She crumpled to her knees, head drooping on the ground. Sweat had already mixed with the water trickling down her lower body, leaving clean rivets in the mud that caked the left side of her body, where she had laid upon the mud. She laid her glare upon the brute, examining him further. She realized that he showed no signs of aggression. She could hear him speaking but past the throbbing migraine that was dappling her vision with spots, she couldn't make out what he was saying. All of the sudden it felt like the sun was baking her from the inside out, frying her brain and boiling her insides. Pain. There was so much pain. She ached all over, and her vision blurred.
Alixra forced herself to focus, eyes narrowing at the beige blur standing in the water in the near distance.
"Away," she managed past her thundering thoughts, spurred by the lightning of pain constantly streaking through her temple. Lathering foam had gathered at the corners of her mouth, from exhaustion, exertion, and just plain terror. She couldn't even lift her head enough to look somewhat threatening to her 'dangerous' opponent. Within moments, she found her vision fading completely, and she fell into the darkness of unconsciousness.
words; 462 muse; 06/10 ooc; Delusional Alixra is delusional. Sorry for the cliche faint, but it's reasonable with how exhausted she is--there's no other way she would act that way otherwise. XD
