He awoke with a start and before his pupils had completely dilated, he stood without a second thought. His skull felt immediate contact with the hard stone ceiling, "Ouch!" he yelled. He sat back down and mentally shook himself, for some reason he felt a sense of panic. Perhaps it had something to do with his dream. Wait, what had he dream about? He sighed heavily and thought, not for the first time, that it was annoying how dreams can leave a person’s mind so quickly- as if they were only coming for a visit and were never to return again! Though, maybe he should be happy he didn’t remember this dream considering how it woke him up as if he were being attacked right that instant. His head began to throb and he was pretty sure there would be a large bump by the end of the day. Or was it still night? He couldn’t positively know, he was already quite lost within the caves and he was almost certain a whole day had already passed. He was starting to regret his oh-so-smart decision of entering the caves even with knowing the history behind Tenebris. Well, there was no use in sitting around and wallowing in self misery, he would never resort to such degrading measures. He felt a bit of momentary disgust with himself at even the thought and decided to move on with his life. He slowly stood, making sure to stoop his head and crawl out of his little hole-in-the-wall den. He had three options: he could go right, which was back the way he came if his memory was informing him correctly; he could go straight and possibly end up even deeper into the treacherous caves; or go left and still end up deeper into the caves. None of the ideas were exceptionally appealing, but his safest bet was probably retracing his pawsteps- if he could remember all of them, that is. Just as he started to take the right tunnel, his ears twitched at a far-off sound. Then again, it could have been quite close, you just really never know because of the echoes. Sound bouncing off the walls was never a helpful thing in a world of darkness and enclosed spaces. One of his senses were already quite limited, he didn’t want more of them being useless in Tenebris. His fur slightly bristled, perhaps in response to the sound or he still had lingering feelings of trepidation from earlier. He shook his head, he needed to just calm down and sort out his thoughts. He had heard rumors that there were still creatures trapped inside, losing more and more pieces of their mind each day. He shivered at the thought. “Okay, time to go.” He told himself.
