The sky above was dark with clouds of ominous navy blue, making the shade abundant. Nothing seemed to be going correctly for the female, as she had been travelling for a long while now and all she had encountered was rain. It was getting rather tiresome. The bright ivory of her coat was dappled with droplets of wet that seemed constant, while she left impressions in the mud behind her. No destination was in mind, but she kept on going none the less, hoping to spot something in the distance that would save her from the downpour. She was sodden and beginning to shake as the cold seeped from her skin into her bones, chilling Sequin from both inside and out. Behind her gentle flicks of her tail indicated that she was getting rather irritated with the weather, and from there the lithe bodice of the femme shot out from the grasses, her frame moving across the terrain with such elegant ease it seemed as if she was floating. Nothing was more eloquent than Sequin, as her black maw pointed in the direction in which she sought shelter. She barely made any noise at all, besides perhaps the gentle huffing of her breathes in and out. If it had been earlier in the year, her hot pants would have created crystals in the air that danced in front of the eyes for only a second before dispersing into the night. Today however, in the newly settled season of spring, her breath was unseen.
It seemed like a long while before she found a hole in which seemed to lead somewhere. In a desperate attempt to get out of the rain Sequin squeezed herself in, pressing her tiny body against the rocks and pulling herself along. Had she been claustrophobic perhaps this would have been a bad idea, but Sequin seemed to maneuver herself quite accurately through the winding pathway. It was small, and at least that would deter predators larger than her in, but she wondered what she would find on the other side. Curiosity tugged at her thoughts, blurring out more important ones like ‘what if I get stuck’. It appeared the Sequin wasn’t worried about that, she was driven simply by her desire to get out of the rain. Honestly she was soaked to the bone; a dry place was needed before she became part of the water herself. Rocks pressed themselves hard against her bones, jutting out and striking her in the legs and ribs. The pain was enough to drive her onward as she forced her limbs to dislodge themselves from the crumbling terrain. The task was difficult to say in the least, but she managed to free herself in the end, and tumbled out of the entrance into a much larger cave. From the top you could see out on the rain ridden land that she had been just a moment ago. She felt a sense of pride right then that one couldn’t believe, she was much higher up than she anticipated, as it didn’t entirely feel like she was climbing upward. She supposed though that it didn’t matter how she managed to get up here, but that she was here now, safe and dry.
One couldn’t deny the beauty that was seen here, what with the rain pit-pattering against the ground, and wetting the mouth of the cave. It was a curtain of water, masking her from the sight of any others, though that didn’t mean that curious eyes and other wanderers were not about. Her ears pricked atop her head, swiveling as she attempted to hear past the falling rain. Her ivory coat was stained with wetness, and the coverage of the cave only darkened her pelt, making it appear a heavy gray. Her eyes though were bright, vividly yellow in the darkness of the cave. Attuning to her surroundings wasn’t easy, as she wasn’t used to the dark nor being alone, that being said however what choice did she have? The rain had brought her here, and her brothers had gone off on their own. That was the choice they made, and Sequin had to live with it. With these thoughts on her mind Sequin focused on the darkness that spanned out in front of her in the caverns, attempting to make out some of the obstacles. She could see little else but bugs and small rodents, however something was nagging at her, telling her that somewhere in the darkness, there was someone watching.
This post includes Sequin and is open to all! It has 751 words. I would like to say First post, yehaw :B!
Alixra would have been perfectly content with sitting in the rain for the rest of eternity, wide, terrified eyes staring into the depths in which she could only picture the body of her mother lying in. She was terrified that one day she would find the cave in which her mother had taken her last breath. She had come all of this way to hopefully overcome her fear of caverns with this one, which was said to be absolutely gorgeous by many. Instead, halfway up toward it, the downpour had begun, leaving her soaked and freezing. She had happened upon the cave, its depths darkened by the overcast, desaturated cobalt above her head. She turned her muzzle toward the skies, cursing her luck in an uncharacteristic string of foul words, which reverberated inside of the tunnel before her.
Despite all of the terror radiating from her quivering form at the sight of the gaping space in front of her, haunted by shadows and hiding what could easily be monsters in its depths, nothing compared to her fear of lightning. She heard thunder rumble distinctively from behind her, and saw light cast upon the rocks before her, and fled into the embrace of darkness faster than a bat out of hell.
One could never be sure of how the complicated individual would react to something. The last time she had heard thunder while standing at the mouth of a cave, her mind had told her it was coming from inside of it, as if there were some beast waiting inside to devour her, using the cover of the veil of water pouring down from its stony lip to hide its bodice as it awaited the right time to ambush its prey. She was normally not this much of a skittish, easily-scared individual, but today mother nature had decided to throw two of her greatest fears in her face--caves and storms.
She still hadn't completely figured out that it wasn't the caves themselves she was scared of, but rather, it was the black void that made its home inside of the slate-grey walls. Her left eyelid quivered, like it usually did when she was nervous or unsure about something. Her hoof beats were still echoing, the waves of sound springing from one wall to another and making Alixra terribly aware of the fact that something may hear her. As her own noisy clatters faded into the midnight oblivion stretched out in front of her, she made a point of being especially quiet. She nestled down warily inside of the darkness, exhausted limbs deeming standing unnecessary and impossible. Her weight fell gently upon the right wall of the cave, and her legs folded slowly beneath her as she lowered herself to the ground, settling upon her haunches as her forelegs curled to her sides. Her head dropped to the dusty stone, neck setting it softly upon the hard surface. Her eyelids dropped, and despite her extreme paranoia and fright at the shadows around her, she fell asleep.
***
Claws, scrabbling upon the stone, jerked her from her sleep. She normally would have lunged to her hooves and enter a defensive position, but her reflexes, slowed from slumber, and the proximity of the noise kept her from budging. It was then, only about ten feet in front of her muzzle, an alabaster figure emerged from a hole she had not noticed before. She was not scared of wolves, but she knew that if it turned out to be an aggressive individual, she would either be trapped here or forced to flee into the seemingly endless rain. To be sentenced to such a narrow path with such a magnitude of water flowing down it most certainly sounded like suicide to the mare. Her steel-azure pelt flicked and quaked slightly as she pondered what to do. Her blind, left eye found its protective cover twitching again, but she quickly gained control of its movements.
The wolf's attention seemed to be held firmly by whatever was outside. Alixra narrowed her gentle blue eyes, trying to see past the thick shield of rain making an attempt to obscure her view. Unable to see anything, her gaze fall back upon the lupine creature that sat not too far from her. Alixra had misunderstood others when she came to this place; she had thought that they were saying that the cavern itself was beautiful, and hadn't picked up on the fact that they meant the view. She wasn't stupid... it was just that such information was hard to gain from snippets. When others had said "the view from the cave up there is stunning!", her mind had only caught on at "the cave up there is stunning!". When others said "the best part of going up there is the cave and its view!", either her mind tuned out the last part or she got distracted, because all it had gathered was "the best part of going up there is the cave!".
Her mind jump-started suddenly as, for seemingly no reason, the wolf's path of sight was turned suddenly in her direction. Alixra hoped that the rain, which had earlier soaked her through and through, still masked her scent, or that she at least smelled like the dirt she was laying in. As the canine's head turned, both of her eyes immediately closed, not wanting them to reflect any dim light that may have made it into the cave. She hoped that she was far enough back to not be seen, but it was then that Alixra decided to be bold, but wary.
Her eyes flashed open, light making them shine momentarily at the sudden exposure. She rose to her hooves, dragging her body upwards to support her weight on her sore limbs. She approached warily, stopping about two yards away. Her stance was slightly defensive, as she was wary of this creature and its intentions. She was not at all used to being around wolves, and had been taught to avoid them, but had always been the kind to gently go against the norm of the three-horse society she was raised in, even after earning the maimed flesh that had taken away her sight and made her underbelly the exact opposite of a sight to behold. Alixra was not sure of the gender of the beast, but was a bit curious to find out. Hopefully it was whichever gender was the most calm, rational, and the least likely to lunge for her throat.
"Greetings," was the only thing that slipped past her lips. There was no 'how are you?'. There was no 'what are you doing here?'. There was no 'would you like to move a little bit farther back in case the wind blows the rain at you?'. Only that single word. Alixra was not a mare of many words when it came to strangers, and even when she opened up a bit she generally was not the talkative type. At times awkward conversation would seem to be her forte, but right after she could bring up a very interesting subject and state her own very interesting opinion. There was one thing that this wolf would come to learn if it hung around long enough, and it was that Alixra was not the simplest being that had ever existed.
words; 1,222 words muse; 10/10 ooc; I'm sorry for the uber-long, 2/3rds somewhat important, 1/3rd ramble post. :c You get my first 1,000+ word IC post on the forum, I hope it's alright! <3
Turning from the rain that pelted the ground outside of the cave Sequin squinted her eyes in the darkness, trying to make our figure from rock. It seemed though that she was having difficulty determining what exactly was in the shadows. Even as she emerged it Sequin still took a moment to really register her tall, bright frame. She had been swallowed in darkness before, but now as she stepped into the light that seeped in front the entrance of the cave, Sequin could really see and understand what she was looking at. An Equine, elegant with the ivory blanket that covered her body. Attributes were lost as she continued her gaze down the frame, as it seemed the rest of her had not yet retreated from the darkness. Sequin watched with interested bright ochre eyes, ears flicking at the sound that fell so soft from the lips.
It was an elegant greeting even if it was two syllables. She watched, interested for a moment before she smiled and leaned back upon her white haunches, ivory tassel flicking this way and that. She had never seen an Equine before, and as such Sequin was curious to know more about the horse that stood in front of her. It appeared her eyes were tired, like the female horse had just woken from a long nap, but than again Sequin could never be sure. She focused on the forelock and mane and the colors that were strewn throughout them. She wanted to speak, but no words formed in the top of her brain, and the creatures were left in silence, 'cept for the pit-pattering of gentle rain on the terrain below. Every now and again she would feel a prick pf water touching her back, and glance back at the cave entrance as if in blame. Sequin wondered how long it would be until the rain stopped, but it seemed a bit lighter now, and a cool wind was brushing in past her, chilling her bones. Had the female been alone she would have curled into a ball and caught some much needed sleep, but instead she needed to find the words to speak to her newly found companion. In a frenzied motion her thoughts were travelling, abjurring something she had promised to herself long ago. Memories stirred from when she was much younger, and as much as the anomaly was chaff against the situation, they flashed before her eyes regardless.
His form was dark and intimidating, but the memory was skewed at best, her brothers were not there and neither was her father, instead it was just Sequin left alone with the aggrandize figurine of the male who had killed Bolli so long ago. He approached, barefaced of any emotion that should have registered, and instead his eyes were entirely ravenous, voracious in the eyes of a young whelp. She whinned for an exegesis for the situation that had happened so long ago, it somehow made her feel ignoble to the world around her. Sighing against the last of the reveries, Sequin returned her sallow gaze to the female. They appeared much different from before.
"Greetings." She replied, copying the eerie crescendo that had leapt from the equine's lips. Her heart fluttered against her memories as they seeped back into their rightful place in her mind. She had to work hard to shove them back, it was almost obsessive how she tried to contain them so.
Upon the walls incrustations of corrugated and ornamented brown were clearly visible, making Sequin realize that at one point in time this entire place may have been covered in water, or perhaps there was something much more curious about these irregular husks. Attention was turned back to the female then, scenting her in the darkness, and focusing then on her movements or lack there of. It seemed that she was not loquacious by any means, and that suited Sequin just fine, as she was notably shy around strangers. Cogitating thoughts in her head was easy, but speaking them a loud was a different matter. Sequin was assent to more conversation however in the darkness of the cave where only these two creatures were present, and so she spoke again.
"I am Sequin." Not being acutely familiar with the manner in equine meet, Sequin did what she thought was appropriate. The white female dipped her head effectively bowing to the regal figurine in front of her. She felt that this was an expedient way to show that she meant no harm, and perhaps she would even get a name in return, if she was lucky.
This post includes Sequin and is open to all! It has 769 words. I would like to say Sorry it took so long. I lost my word program and it has been difficult >.< I might be getting a new one tonight though. Anyways I did not quite reach 1000 words, I would try, but I am too angry at my word! xD !
The wolf seemed troubled, and Alixra pondered over this fact. Did she have negative experiences with equines that plagued her mind and shifted the course of her actions? It was a bit harrowing to think that the actions of another of her kind had the possibility of leading to negativity from others. The possibility had always been present in her mind, but because Alixra had not been put through prolonged exposure with many wolves, her conscience had never delved into and explored it. To think that she had ignored such a thing, to Alixra, was a bit rage-invoking, though this anger was purely toward herself for being so idiotic.
She heard her greeting fed back to her, followed by an introduction reflected in a mirror clouded by uncertainty. Her mind rolled the name around within itself, and she nodded her head in acknowledgement before allowing her own lyrics to slip from her lips.
"Alixra," she replied simply, leaving her cobalt gaze resting upon the canine momentarily before dragging it to the relentless rain outside. Her eye flickered momentarily until she carried on. "What brought you to this cave when such a downpour was toiling on the horizon? Or do we share the similarity of staying up here too long and being trapped by it?" she inquired gently, offering a soft smile to reassure the creature that she meant so far. She guessed that the other creature was female from such a name, and found security in that fact. Females were generally considered the more calm gender, no?
Unless coaxed into more or prodded into a topic she felt strongly about, this was likely to be the most words she would say in such a concentrated bulk for a while. She said it in a way so that it emphasized the fact she wasn't just being idiotic: if she had simply asked 'what brings you here?', it would generally receive a sort of condescending, 'are you stupid?' answer. It was obvious that the wolf sought shelter, and had come here because of it. She was merely trying to be courteous and start a bit of conversation. Normally she would not seek out anything that would require unnecessary speech, but she had been the first to speak and make her presence verbally known with a greeting. She couldn't just be there and sit quietly. Alixra was a mare of few words, but if there was one thing she was uncomfortable with, it was an awkward silence.
She shifted her weight to the right side of her body, shaking out her mane, as well as the dust from her pelt. Her bodice was of powder blue hues, darkening and deepening as they reached her legs, turning to thin columns of navy tinged with ebony tones. Her mane appeared ashen in the dim light, though in brighter conditions the azure weaving through it stood out much more. She took it upon herself to examine the wolf more thoroughly, committing her mind to memorizing the femme's details so that if they ever met again her identity would be clear.
She turned her head a bit more so that her single un-maimed eye could have more access to view the other creature. The grotesque scar maiming her left eye wasn't visible, thankfully, as it was turned away from Sequin. She disliked allowing others to see it. It gave an undesired first impression and sometimes scared others or made them think differently of her. At least the scar on her stomach wasn't visible unless she reared or rolled, and there was no reason for either to occur at the moment (or so it seemed). This one was always there and always one of the first things that others noticed.
words; 624 words muse; 07/10 ooc; Woops, I think I exhausted my muse a bit more than I should have. XD Don't worry about giving me a shorter post, it seems like I've just returned the favor on accident, haha. <3
She was just watching, her bright eyes staring into the orbs of blue that gazed back at her. It seemed a very uncomfortable moment until the equine spoke, supplying her name. It was a nice enough, and it intrigued Sequin to say it a loud, when the opportunity arose. The female had exquisite features and Sequin allowed her eyes to fall over them, appraising the equine with vivid, keen eyes. It appeared to Sequin that no one else was going to speak, that it until Alixra decided to open her mouth and let words flow freely. Sequin looked up, her tassel flicking to the left as she listened.
Her question was actually quite warranted, as Sequin had slipped up here from the small hole in the ground that the equine could have been oblivious of, there could always be other ways of entrance into the cave. The rain had brought her here, as she was tired of traversing the sodden ground and getting herself soaked in the process. It had fatigued her, and so she had chosen to find somewhere in which to rest her weary bones until at least the rain stopped. At this thought Sequin turned her head to look at the rain fall, which seemed to have let up a bit now, it pit-pattered against the cave entrance like a lullaby encouraging the wolf to lie down and slumber. As much as she wanted too however, she was in the presence of another and it felt rude to ignore their questions and curl up for sleep.
“It’s nice to meet you, Alixra.” Sequin bowed her head in slight respect of her guest, or rather her host. Alixra had obviously been here before Sequin and therefore was entitled to the cave if she wanted it. Sequin would turn and leave if ordered only because she had not called dibs upon entry.
Blinking against the vision that was Alixra she noticed a faint line along her eye, as she flicked her mane. She did not pay much attention to it, but it had caught her consideration enough to make her curious. Suddenly she felt bad for appraising her too acutely; perhaps the equine did not want such things to be noticed. If Sequin had scars to hide, she imagined her reaction would be the same. Though Sequin had quite a past to speak of, it was only what she had witnessed that bore scars, and they were purely flesh wounds of the mental kind. As if attempting to be respectful Sequin averted her eyes from the horse and placed them on the ground. She did not want to stare, and it took her several moments to place her gaze back on the vibrant blue orbs of the female and speak.
“I was trapped in it.” She breathed and her syllables were light with a laugh. Thinking back on her sodden travels it was rather funny, and sneaking through the caves had proved to be difficult and necessary all in the same, provoking another laugh from her lips and she thought about her trepidation of getting out of the rain.
“I thought it might be nice to dry off and catch some rest here…” these words brought another thought into her mind and her body tensed as if she had done something wrong.
“…That is, of course, if you do not mind.” She continued her words, the female wolf wanted to lay and rest her weary bones that now appeared tense, but thought better than to relax just yet. Her tassel no longer swung behind her, the long white plumb lay motionless at her backside, while bright eyes were on the female, anticipating a response but unsure of what exactly the equine would say. Sequin was no Soothsayer, and so she stopped pre-determining responses. Instead she simply remained quiet in the presence of the horse, appraising her features despite knowing the scars that lay there and the sensitivity that could be lingering in the fore-front of Alixra’s brain. At this moment she felt unsure of what to do with her gaze, she wanted to look at Alixra to share her attention and tell her with no words that she was paying mind, but at the same time she did not want to offend by passing her eyes over a scar. It was a predicament that seemed to boggle her head, and though she struggled on the inside, she showed no sense of this on her features. She was rather composed actually despite the bouncing ideas in her head. If one was keen enough perhaps they could look into the eyes and notice that she was thinking deeply, however sometimes even the acutest of eyes miss things.
This post includes Sequin andAlixra It contains 789 words. I would like to say This took forever <3 I apologize. Life is kicking the crap out of me.
She felt raw under the gaze of the other predator, as if her very skin was being peeled away so that those amber eyes could peer into her soul and delve into the depths of every secret the infected mare had ever held close to her mind. It was as if her very heart was under the bright glare of a spotlight, for all to behold and decide the purity of. As if she were being scrutinized and under judgement that would alter her life and decide for her on the matter of her own survival. The prospect sent a shiver down her spine, causing her to quake momentarily, though it appeared as if it were from the cool gale of wind that coincidentally blew through the cavern, speckling her drying pelt with rain once more. Even though the wolf's gaze was not set upon her with such terrifying intent, Alixra could not sway the hold that her instincts tried to have over her thoughts. She shifted uncomfortably under the wolf's sights, ear flicking as Sequin's courteous greeting was met with nothing but silence on her part.
The canine's observation of her maimed eye did not go unnoticed by Alixra, but it seemed to from the outside, as she appeared too busy admiring the rain from the corner of her eye to distract her from the darkness at her right and the staring creature at her front. The lid fell over the blind eye slowly and silently, as if it would ward the path of sight trained upon it. She wished that it would have simply healed itself shut so the monstrosity that was the scarred orb would have been locked away from sight, but she had not been so lucky. Perhaps she didn't deserve such pity from the world, and most of all, from her father; in fact, she probably didn't after what she had done. To think she had once been so cruel was torture enough for Alixra; she didn't need the horrendous scars that maimed the left side of her features and ripped down her stomach to make her feel guilty and regret what she had done. It was under the view of this very being that the blue mare felt hideous and like a monster.
Wakened from her troubled thoughts by replying murmurings and the whisper of a lighthearted chuckle, her path of sight returned itself to Sequin, sharply-angled ears pushing forward once more to drink in her words. A smile graced her own features as she imagined the alabaster being strolling along when it suddenly began to rain on her. Her countenance was crossed by a surprised look when the lupe checked with Alixra for permission to remain in the cave. Her face suddenly became deadly serious, eyes narrowing as she stared critically at Sequin.
"Of course I mind. Get out," she grumbled, suddenly rough tone almost a growl. But within moments, before the creature could take her seriously and leave, she gave a quick shake of her head and a laugh before her grin returned, laced with mischief and playfulness. "No, I will not begrudge a kind stranger shelter," she stated reassuringly, offering a smile.
words; 593! muse; 09/10 ooc; I love this post. Like, a lot. As in, unhealthy, make-me-want-to-brag a lot. But then I'd feel terribly conceited and vain. XD I hope you like it too and that it's worth how terrible of a person I am for PMing you. XD
Standing and appraising a mare was not something she was used too, as she hadn’t run into many horses in her time here. As such her responses were gauged and delicate. She felt rather uneasy in front of this large creature that had the ability to kick her and instantly kill her. The picture of such an event popped into her head and it was frightening to say in the least. It occurred to Sequin that had she been rude this very well could have been the outcome. The scar upon her face seemed to supply Sequin with a sense of appropriateness to assume freely what she was like, although Sequin attempted not to judge she found it difficult. Had the day been brighter and the ground been dry perhaps she would have turned to take her leave…or rather now that she thought about it this meeting would have never happened in the first place. Sequin would have simply continued travelling onward, with no destination in mind.
Blinking against these thoughts she listened for a response from the mare before doing anything in particular, especially moving in anyway. Her entire body was statuesque yet entirely still; even her ochre eyes denied movement. They were simply placed upon the femme in front of her, questioning her without saying a single word. Her heart hammered against her chest though, frantic pumping that sounded in her ears alone. The slight movement of her breath would give away nothing however for it as well barley moved, giving the impression that for a moment Sequin was entirely built of colored stone.
It was then everything seemed to change in the cave. The rain seemed to pound the ground behind her heavier, and the tension was a thick as mire. The mare instantly became serious and Sequin feared that she had done something to offend. Had she held eye contact too long? Was she perhaps too still? She wanted to sigh, to express her self-loathing in that entire second but in the instant that it was felt, it too was gone when the mare that called herself Alixra spoke again.
In the previous seconds her heart had gone from frantic to absolute hysteria and now that it settled she had to gasp and catch her breath. Who knew that mares were so darn funny? Her eyes narrowed briefly, but that motion didn’t last long and instead she built up laughter in her throat. It was a nice sound something not heard often enough by her own ears to be considered regular. She felt somehow displaced from herself, and for a brief moment is was disconcerting. Tossing that and other thoughts aside she refocused on the mare and smiled, laughter falling lightly off her lips in conclusion to her humor. Sequin supposed it was a good thing that the mare was joking, otherwise she would have been cast out into the rain and again she would have to find shelter. She didn't very much like the sound of that idea.
“Then I thank you.” Sequin lowered her head, nodded to Alixra and then raised it again. Under the eyes of this large female Sequin was unsure of what to do or say. She was suddenly very aware of her standing position and took the opportunity to seat herself and wrap the tassel of white around herself. This position was comfortable and it made her want to chat but what about? Simply no topics came to mind for this female. It was a long moment of silence before Sequin opened her black lips to speak to Alixra.
“Were you born around here?” Sequin asked, studying the terrain around them in the cave. She meant in this area, not in this cave but then again she hadn’t specified either, the mare could take it anyway she wished and Sequin would be happy. It seemed that they were doing well in getting along with one another and for that Sequin was appreciative. She stared with curious eyes toward Alixra, comfortable in the presence of another.
