CHARACTER CREATION & SPLICING
a more in-depth guide
For those of you who want some more info about creating characters and hybrids as well as what is allowed and what isn't. I present to you this guide of sorts - which I hope will clear up any questions while still allowing some creative freedom with your characters.
Let's get started with all the species that are allowed on Clash: (Yes, this is a bit of a repetition as this info is also in the 'Species and Base Stats' thread - so feel free to skip this part!)
AVIAN | Large birds of prey - Raptors, Eagles, Vultures, Secretary Birds, Owls and Condors.
CANINE | All breeds of wolves are permitted, as well as Wild Dogs, Coyotes, Jackals, Dingos and Dholes.
CERVINE | Deer & Elk breeds.
EQUINE | All breeds of horses are allowed.
FELINE [MED] | Clouded Leopards, Margays, Ocelots, Bobcats, Servals and Caracals
FELINE [LRG] | Lions, Tigers, Leopards, Panthers, Cougars and Jaguars
URSINE | Black Bear, Brown Bear, Sloth Bear, Sun Bear,
VULPINE | All breeds of foxes are allowed.
HYBRIDS | Mild animal hybrids - the main animal being one of the above listed animals. A further guide about Hybrids is below - keep reading!
* You will notice there is also a PURIST user group. A Purist can be any species - the name Purist specifies a belief system. Purist's see the diseased and hybrids as lesser beings - their one greatest wish is to cull the 'unclean' from their lands.
In the wild each animal has their own specific colouration, their set markings etc. Since this is a fantasy RPG, set in a post-apocalyptic haven, we're going to bend these rules a little.
In terms of fur colour - let's keep it semi-realistic. You are more than welcome to go outside the realm of your breeds normal colour - so long as it is still a natural shade. LEMME GIVE YOU A FO' INSTANCE: You want to create a grey tiger? Yes, perfect - you can do this. You want to create a grey wolf, and even though they usually never have red fur, you want to add red fur - yes, also perfect. You may mix and match the colours of nature to your hearts desire - just please stay away from colours not seen in nature, such as purple, blue, any kind of neon, pink, etc. Albino and melanistic characters are welcome.
In terms of markings - go wild. Literally. Go wild. You want a horse with a natural circle of white hair around her eye? Yes. Do it. You want a wolf with stripes in the fur down his neck? Yasss. Wonderful. Be creative. I love it.
Getting down to eye colour - you also have free reign here. I won't limit you here either.
Lastly - adornments. These are a bit more nitty gritty, as human are extinct and have been gone for years. Any adornment will have to be animal-crafted, and therefor can't be too grandiose. LET ME GIVE YOU ANOTHA' FO' INSTANCE: You want your character to have a silver chain around their neck? This will not be possible. Silver and chains are both man-made items. Perhaps, as a replacement, consider a 'necklace' crafted with vines and strong plant matter. Knives and other weapons are not permitted.
Now for the fun part - creating hybrid characters! This would entail splicing certain elements of one species with another. Please keep in mind we only allow mild hybrids - and nothing extreme. Ideally - you would choose your base species (say, a wolf) and then add other elements from a different species (say, you give him goat horns and a little goat-beard). Remember - the disease is still developing, and the hyrbids that are occurring 'naturally' are not growing new limbs, but rather new additions.
If you want to create a character that has limbs that are from another species - you may do, as long as you mention in their history that their mother was infected with the disease while pregnant. Please keep it logical though (as weird as the word logical sounds considering we're talking about splicing animals XD) - we do not allow chimera's or mythical beasts. Just consider your choices by thinking 'would this animal still be able to function as it normally would?' FO' INSTANCE: A horse wouldn't be able to walk with the hind legs of a wolf - their bodies are way too heavy to be supported by thinner legs. Considering stuff like that - here are a few other pointers to keep things running smoothly:
Are horns allowed? Yes. I don't see how horns can interfere - just keep them moderately proportioned. (ie: An owl with antlers would be pretty top-heavy.)
Are wings allowed? For now - wings are only allowed on the birds. I am considering adding a winged hyrbid as a character you can purchase with points.
Are extra eyes allowed? Yes.
Are longer teeth allowed? Yes, both predators and herbivores.
Are different tails allowed? Yes, but the character must have been born that way.
Are multiple tails allowed? Sure. But let's not go past three for now xD
Are limb changes allowed? Yes, but the character must have been born that way, and their mother must have had the disease. Please keep it proportional! :}
Hopefully this gives you more or less an idea of how to create your character physically. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to PM me - I will respond ASAP!
